My old boss said to never use a rasp on a hot shoe, but I tried it on a draft horse last week.
He was right. The steel lost its temper and the shoe wore out in two days. Anyone else have a rule they ignored and paid for?

Yeah, that's a rough way to learn. We all think we know better sometimes and then reality hits fast. I ignored the "measure twice, cut once" rule with some expensive wood last month and totally messed up a cut. Felt so dumb. Those old rules exist for a reason, even if we have to test them ourselves to believe it.

Tell me about it. I once tried to "eyeball" a shelf install and ended with a permanent lean that would make the Tower of Pisa jealous. Wound up using it as a "design feature" for plant storage.

My uncle always said to never pour concrete in the rain. I figured a light drizzle wouldn't hurt and now his patio looks like the surface of the moon. Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way.
