My buddy swears by the 'extra salt' hack at McDonald's for fresh fries but it backfired hard
Told the cashier at the drive-thru in Austin to hold the salt so they'd make a fresh batch, but they just gave me a lukewarm bag of unsalted fries that were clearly sitting for 10 minutes. Has anyone else tried that trick and just gotten worse results?

Yeah I read somewhere that they won't make a fresh batch unless you ask for it at the counter instead of the drive-thru. Sounds like the cashier just grabbed whatever was there.

Man that sucks. I tried the same thing at a McDonald's in Houston last month and got lukewarm fries that tasted like cardboard. @rowan_reed68 is right though, they definitely don't care about drive-thru orders. The cashier probably just grabbed the first unsalted bag they saw. I've had way better luck walking inside and asking nicely for a fresh basket, even if it takes a few minutes.

Walking inside doesn't always do the trick either, I've stood at the counter before and still gotten fries that were sitting there for 10 minutes. Is it really worth the extra effort for something that's just going to be cold by the time you get home anyway? Maybe we're all overthinking a bag of potatoes here.
