My coworker's kombucha scoby exploded in the break room fridge

Now management is debating a policy on personal fermentation projects. Has anyone dealt with this at their job?

Remember when Dave in accounting tried to make his own kimchi and the jar leaked in the fridge... the whole floor smelled like old cabbage for a week. He just kept saying it was supposed to smell that strong. Stuff like that always starts a whole mess of new rules, like that time they banned space heaters after Karen melted her stapler. Fermented projects in shared spaces never end well, they just bring out the worst in office politics.

At my wife's old job, someone left a tuna casserole in the fridge over a long weekend. It created such a stink that management posted a memo banning all strong-smelling foods on Mondays. I saw @wadesullivan point out how common these tales are, and he's right. There was a story on a news site about an office that outlawed microwaving popcorn after a fire alarm went off twice in one week. It's funny how one person's mistake leads to rules for everyone, just like Charles said with the kimchi and space heaters.

Saw a Reddit post just like your kimchi story, @charles_jackson68.
