Question about those fancy fermentation weights

I spent about $35 on a set of glass fermentation weights for my kimchi last month, and they totally saved my batch by keeping everything submerged perfectly, so has anyone found a cheaper DIY weight that works just as well?

Try a small ziplock bag filled with water, it works just as well.

Used a plastic bag trick for flies last summer and it cut down on them big time. Something about the light reflection messes with their vision. Give it a shot, it's cheap and easy.

Heard it works because the water acts like a fish eye lens and scrambles everything. My neighbor swears by hanging a few near her back door. She uses the cheap sandwich bags and says you gotta change the water if it gets cloudy.
