We had a core shift on a big gearbox casting last month. My old boss from the Cincinnati shop taught me to pack the sand tighter around the drag flask edges first, not the middle.

Man, that's rough. Those core shifts are such a pain to deal with after the fact. Solid tip from your old boss though.

Always did it the other way, but that makes sense.

Curious what the other way was, @amy_martin. For example, I used to always soak beans overnight, but skipping that step and just boiling them longer changed everything. What specific method were you using before?

But soaking overnight makes them way easier to digest, @amy_martin. Boiling longer just turns them into mush for me.
