Am I the only one who remembers the old way to my friend's house?

For years, I drove to my buddy Mark's place in Springfield the same way. You'd take Maple Street, turn left at the big blue water tower, go three blocks, and his house was the third on the right. I did this maybe a hundred times. Then, about six months ago, I was driving there and the water tower was gone. Just not there. The street layout was different, too. Now you have to go straight past where the tower was, turn right on Oak, and his house is on the left. Mark says it's always been that way and the blue water tower was over on the other side of town, torn down years ago. But I know what I saw, and I drove that old route for a decade. Has anyone else had a local landmark just vanish from its spot, with everyone acting like it was never there?

The old Dairy Queen on Route 9 for me. It was a walk-up with a red roof right by the traffic light. One day it was just a vacant lot, and my sister swore it closed when we were kids. I drove past it every Friday for years.

Actually that one stayed open way later than people remember. The building was gone by 2008, not when we were kids.

My cousin worked there the summer before it got torn down. He said they had a weird freezer that broke all the time, and the owner just gave up fixing it. I remember the red roof tiles were all faded to a pinkish color by the end. It's wild how a place you see all the time just vanishes and nobody can agree on when it happened.
