I finally felt truly calm in a tiny fishing port I found while chasing lighthouse photos.

See what robert means, feel it right through the viewfinder.

Weird, I always found the opposite. When I'm out with my camera like that, chasing a specific shot, I get too stuck in my own head about settings and angles. The calm for me comes later, when I'm home and not trying to make anything happen. That little port sounds amazing, but I'd probably be so focused on the lighthouse I'd miss the whole feel of the place until I left.

So do you ever notice that feeling while you're shooting, or is it always just later when you look back? Like if you stop chasing the lighthouse shot for a minute, can you ever just feel the calm of the port right then, or does the camera always get in the way? I'm curious if there's a specific thing that lets you switch from tech mode to just being there.

Man, that hits home. I read this interview once where a photographer said she only uses her viewfinder now to force herself to slow down and really look at one small piece of the scene. @ben360, maybe it's about trying to let go of making every single shot perfect? Like if you're only hunting the lighthouse, you miss the water and the boats and the whole mood. But what if you took that 'bad' shot on purpose first, just to get it out of your system? Then you're free to just be there.
