Warning: I'm seeing less hands-on training for new mechanics in my area

I visited a tech school last week where they train future aircraft mechanics. Most of the class time was on simulators and computer programs. The instructor said it saves money and space. But I remember learning by actually taking apart engines and feeling for wear. Now, graduates come out knowing software but fumble with real tools. This shift worries me about the future of our trade. What's the training like where you are?

I finally felt truly calm in a tiny fishing port I found while chasing lighthouse photos.

Weird, I always found the opposite. When I'm out with my camera like that, chasing a specific shot, I get too stuck in my own head about settings and angles. The calm for me comes later, when I'm home and not trying to make anything happen. That little port sounds amazing, but I'd probably be so focused on the lighthouse I'd miss the whole feel of the place until I left.
