Learned this lesson: Letting my cousins choose restaurants broke our food budget.

They picked expensive places every time, so we ran out of cash early. Now I make a list of affordable spots and share it with everyone before the trip.

How did your cousins react when you gave them the affordable list?

Isn't it crazy how often people think expensive means better? I see this all the time where folks dismiss good stuff just because it doesn't cost a lot. Your cousin Mike's reaction is a perfect example of that mindset. It's like we're trained to believe that if you pay more, you're getting something worth more, even when that's not true. But honestly, some of the best things I own didn't break the bank, you know?

Oh man, they had the funniest mix of reactions. A couple were honestly really happy and said it saved them so much time. But my cousin Mike just stared at it and said "this is all cheap stuff" like that was a bad thing (which, come on, that was the whole point). It made me realize some people think a higher price tag means it's automatically better, you know? I stuck by my list though.
