Warning: I'm seeing less hands-on training for new mechanics in my area
I visited a tech school last week where they train future aircraft mechanics. Most of the class time was on simulators and computer programs. The instructor said it saves money and space. But I remember learning by actually taking apart engines and feeling for wear. Now, graduates come out knowing software but fumble with real tools. This shift worries me about the future of our trade. What's the training like where you are?

Saw a rookie crack a housing with a torque wrench last month.

Honestly, is the tool fumbling really that bad?

I get why you're asking if it's "that bad", but yeah, it actually is. When you fumble with a tool, you waste time and can even break the part you're working on. I've seen a simple slip with a screwdriver strip a head completely, turning a five minute job into a huge hassle.
