Spent 3 hours chasing a phantom door lock fault on a 10-year-old Schindler 3300

The car kept faulting on door close, but the lock roller and cam looked fine. Turns out the lock cam bracket had worn just enough to let the whole assembly shift about 2mm on its mount, which the switch couldn't track. Has anyone else seen this kind of wear pattern on the older 3300s, or was this a one-off?

Question about the carbon footprint of streaming music

Honestly, I was just reading an article on the BBC website last night and it said streaming one hour of music uses about the same energy as charging a phone halfway. I found that stat kind of shocking because I stream music all day at my desk. Does anyone know if there are better ways to listen, like downloading playlists instead?

Vent: My journeyman in Tacoma always said to skim coat with a 12-inch knife, no exceptions.

I tried a 14-inch on a big ceiling job last week because my shoulder was killing me, and honestly, it went way smoother with fewer lines. Now I'm wondering if that old rule was just his personal preference. What's the biggest knife you guys regularly use for skimming?

Had to choose between a 3/4 inch plywood box or solid poplar for a built-in bookcase last month, went with the plywood.

The client in Springfield wanted it to look like old built-ins but had a tight budget. I figured the plywood with a solid wood face frame and edge banding would save them about $400 on materials. It came out fine, but I'm still second-guessing if the solid wood would have held up better over the years (you know, less chance of sagging on those long shelves). Anyone else make a call like that recently and how'd it turn out for you?

I chased a phantom rattle in a minivan for three days straight.

It was a 2018 Honda Odyssey that came in with a noise the owner said was 'like marbles in a can'. I checked the usual stuff, shields, heat guards, even the spare tire well. I finally found it on day three, after putting about 15 miles on it myself. A kid's plastic toy from under the second row seat had rolled perfectly into a cavity in the frame rail. It only rattled on left turns over 35 mph! Has anyone else had a noise hunt that turned into a total scavenger hunt?

I watched a fake video of my favorite band and it felt completely wrong

So last Tuesday, I was scrolling and saw a clip of this band I love, The Echoes, playing a new song live. I got super excited, but something felt off. The singer's mouth movements were a tiny bit out of sync with the vocals, like a bad dub. His eyes also had this weird, glassy stare that never blinked. I spent the next hour, no joke, just looking at the video frame by frame. I noticed the lighting on his face didn't quite match the stage lights, and a guitar strap seemed to phase through his jacket for a single frame. It was a deep fake, and a pretty good one, but those small tells gave it away. It really messed with me because I almost shared it with all my friends. Has anyone else had that gut feeling about a video before you even spotted the hard proof?

TIL those cheap plastic mixing bowls from the dollar store can actually cause color formulas to separate.

I wasted a whole $45 tube of custom color on a client's highlights because the bowl's static messed with the developer, so has anyone found a good brand that doesn't do this?

Honestly, I've found earwigs hiding in every damp corner. Tbh, putting out rolled-up newspaper traps at night catches a bunch. What's your best way to handle earwigs?
