My sister insisted I didn't need to flip chicken wings halfway through cooking
My sister Sarah told me last week that the air fryer is so hot you don't need to flip wings at all. So I tried it with a batch of 12 wings at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. The bottoms came out soggy and the tops were crispy. Has anyone else found that flipping is necessary for even cooking in an air fryer?

Sarah means well but she's definitely wrong on this one. Air fryers work by circulating hot air, so the side facing down against the basket gets less direct heat and can stay soggy if you don't flip. I've made that mistake before and ended up with half crispy half rubbery wings, it's not good. You really gotta flip them at least once, usually around the halfway mark, to get even cooking all around. Your method of flipping is actually the right way to go, don't let her talk you out of it.

Does Sarah actually test these theories or just guess?

Why would @henryt18 even waste time flipping when the fan does all the work?

Ngl this kind of thing pops up all the time wherever shortcuts sound good but skip over the actual work that makes things come out right. People always want the faster way until they taste the difference between rushed and done properly. Flipping wings is just one of those small steps that separates decent food from good food, same as letting steak rest or toasting bread before making a sandwich.
