Old timer installer told me to always use shielded cable on second floor runs

He swore interference from attic wiring would kill my wireless signals but I did it cheap and now a customer's bedroom sensors are ghosting at random times, so who was right about this actually happening or not?

My buddy Dave used cheap cable and his garage door opener started opening at 3am.

Man thats wild @hannahcraig. What kind of cable was it specifically? Like was it one of those super thin flat ribbon cables or a standard 4 conductor bell wire? I hear the cheap flat ones can pick up interference from nearby power lines or wifi routers if you run them too close to the ceiling. Did Dave ever try swapping it out for a shielded cable or just rerouting the wire to see if it stopped the random opening at 3am? Cause that timing is too specific to be a coincidence.

@richard_young80 Isnt it funny how the same cheap thinking shows up in other stuff like using off brand batteries that leak or bargain bin extension cords that melt? It's always the hidden stuff that bites you later while the fancy trim looks fine.
