Found a weird trick for boosting my small YouTube channel that actually worked this week

I've been stuck around 300 views per video for months on my history explainer channel. Then I noticed that if I reply to the first 5 comments within 2 minutes of posting, the algorithm seems to push the video harder. Tried it on my last video about the 1863 Draft Riots in New York City and it hit 1,200 views in 3 days. Has anyone else seen a boost from early engagement like that?

My buddy Steve runs a gaming channel where he does walkthroughs of old Xbox games nobody remembers. He was stuck at like 50 views for months and tried the exact same thing you mentioned. He set a timer on his phone for 2 minutes after posting and would refresh like a madman to reply to anyone who commented. His video on the original Splinter Cell hit 3,000 views in a week which is huge for him. He said the algorithm definitely seemed to pick it up faster than his normal videos. I think YouTube just likes seeing that people are actually talking about a video right away.

Three thousand views on a Splinter Cell video? That's wild.
