Got told my anime reviews were just plot summaries with a thumbs up at the end

Someone on a different forum said my posts were basically 'Wikipedia with feelings' and it stung. I looked back at my last ten reviews and they were right, I just said what happened and if I liked it. So for the past month, I've tried to pick one specific thing, like the sound design in 'Bocchi the Rock' or how 'Spy x Family' uses framing for comedy, and write about that instead. It's harder but feels more real. Anyone else get a piece of feedback that made them totally change how they talk about shows?

Got called out for calling every isekai "a fun escape" once. My reviews were basically just the genre name and a smiley face. Picking one detail to focus on is way harder, but it stops me from writing the same three sentences over and over. Your Bocchi example is a good one, the guitar sounds in that show do so much work.

That's a solid way to force yourself to look closer. Makes me wonder, what's a detail that really caught you off guard in a show? Like, I remember the way they animated dust motes in a sunbeam in some slice of life show, and it just sold the whole lazy afternoon feeling.

The sound design in Attack on Titan season one really got me. I never paid attention to the 3D Maneuver Gear noises before. The sharp hiss of the cables, the clunk of the hooks finding stone, it made the whole thing feel heavy and real. I used to just watch for the big fights, but those small sounds built the world. Now I notice how much work audio does to sell a scene.
