That lady in Oak Park taught me about dryer vent lint traps

Had a call last month where the dryer was taking 3 cycles to dry a small load. The homeowner showed me her 'lint trap' that was actually just the mesh screen from a window - she'd been using it for 2 years. Has anyone else seen creative DIY lint trap replacements?

Well, did she at least give it a fancy name like a "bio-degradable particulate filtration system" before she installed it? Honestly, that's a new one on me, and I've seen some real winners over the years. Someone once showed me a dryer that had a thick layer of dust bunnies and old socks jammed behind where the lint trap should be because they thought "it all just blows outside anyway." People get real creative when they don't want to buy a five dollar part, I guess.

My neighbor in apartment 3B tried using a flattened soda can as a fuse once. Blew out half the building's power for a whole evening.

Oh I love that "biodgradable particulate filtration system" line too much lol. Had a guy once who stuffed an old t-shirt into the vent opening because he said the lint trap was "just a suggestion" and he was saving money on dryer sheets. Took me an hour to pull all that fabric out of the machine components.
