Walked into a kitchen in Tulsa where the ice maker had been leaking for 3 weeks straight

I was called out to this house where water was pooling under the fridge and the owners just put towels down instead of calling me sooner. Took off the back panel and saw the water line had a pinhole leak right where it bends into the valve. Replaced the line with a braided steel one for $12 and checked the filter housing for cracks while I was back there. Everything held fine after that but it could have killed the compressor if they waited much longer. Anyone else deal with people ignoring small leaks until it gets bad?

Braided steel lines save so many headaches down the road lol.

Used to think plastic lines were fine until I had a call like this one. Braided steel is cheap insurance for the time it takes to install it. @felixhenderson is right, they save headaches. Seeing that pinhole leak and how close the compressor was to burning out really changed my mind. A $12 part can keep a whole fridge running for years longer. Plastic just isn't worth the risk anymore, especially when water damage adds up fast.
