Just realized I might be overwatering my clients' trees after a chat with a soil scientist
I was talking to a soil scientist at a workshop last month in Asheville. She told me most arborists water on a schedule instead of checking the soil moisture first. She said 'you're drowning roots that need air more than water.' Now I'm second guessing my whole routine. Does anyone else follow strict watering timetables or do you check each site individually?

Man, @quinncoleman nailed it - but do you actually trust your gut over what the soil tells you, or do you still second guess yourself when you skip a scheduled watering day?

Stick my finger in the soil every time now, saved more plants that way.

Yeah that hit me hard too when I heard similar advice. I used to water every Tuesday and Friday without fail, now I dig down a few inches first and it's wild how often the soil is still damp underneath. You're not alone in second guessing everything, pretty sure most of us got trained on old habits that just aren't right.
