Pro tip: That expensive laser level wasn't worth it for my bathroom reno
Bought a $180 self-leveling laser for tiling my bathroom floor last weekend and it kept drifting off after 20 minutes. Ended up using a cheap bubble level I borrowed from my neighbor and got it done in half the time. Has anyone else had a fancy tool fail on a simple job like that?

...and that's exactly what happened to me with a laser level I bought for tiling. It was supposed to save time but I spent more time recalibrating it than actually working. I've learned the hard way that for small jobs like a bathroom floor, a good old fashioned bubble level is usually more reliable and faster.

My buddy bought one and spent all weekend fighting with it instead of tiling.

Honestly, it's funny you mention that because my neighbor went through something similar with a fancy chalk line. He bought one of those automatic ones that's supposed to snap a perfect line every time and it just jammed up halfway through marking his studs. Ended up borrowing my old hand-crank one and it worked way better. Tbh, sometimes the simpler stuff is just more reliable when you're dealing with a small space like that. Ngl, I think we all have that one fancy tool that just sits in the garage now collecting dust.
