The way people talk about 'networking' at conferences drives me up a wall
I watched a guy at a career fair in Denver hand out 50 business cards in 10 minutes without asking a single question about anyone's work, then brag about 'making connections.' Has anyone else found that real opportunities come from actual conversations, not just handing out contact info?

tv like that" is insane, @ivan_harris people actually nodding along without listening is way too common.

Hate that nonsense. Real connections happen when you actually LISTEN to people.

Then you've got people scrolling through their phones while you're talking to them lmao. It's like they think just being in the same room counts as connecting. I've noticed it's worse at family dinners where everyone's got their faces in their screens instead of actually looking at each other. My buddy Dave does this thing where he'll say "uh huh" and "yeah" while staring at his TV, but ask him what you just said 5 minutes later and he's got no clue. That's not listening, that's just being a background noise machine lol.
