Why does nobody talk about how easy it is to overmix pancake batter?

I spent 30 years making hockey pucks before my sister-in-law caught me beating the lumps out and told me to stop, and now my pancakes actually fluff up instead of doubling as frisbees - has anyone else gotten this wrong forever?

Is it weird that I used to actually prefer the rubbery texture because that's what I thought pancakes were supposed to be like? @mark_green is right about the "weapon" thing though, I still have to physically step away from the bowl sometimes.

That "still have to physically step away from the bowl sometimes" really hit home for me. It's funny how we have to unlearn what we thought was the right way to do something.

Honestly, my mom still beats pancake batter like it owes her money and gets mad when I tell her to stop. She's been making them for 45 years and swears the lumps are "unprofessional." Tbh, how long did it take you to unlearn that habit of attacking the bowl? Ngl, I still catch myself going at it with the whisk sometimes and have to put it down like it's a weapon.
