Hot take: that new chain lube everyone is raving about isn't worth the money

I tried the Squirt brand wax lube on my 2005 Honda Civic after reading 50 glowing reviews online, but it washed off after one rainy commute and left my chain squeaking worse than the cheap stuff I buy at AutoZone.

See this all the time with people chasing the newest thing without checking if it even fits what they're doing. It's like guys who buy a $300 fishing rod but fish in a muddy ditch full of sticks. The real trick is figuring out what works for your actual situation instead of what looks good on someone else's setup. Most of those glowing reviews come from people riding $6,000 road bikes in perfect weather with a garage full of tools. They don't live in the real world where you drive through puddles and park under trees. I'd take a cheap tub of sticky grease over any fancy wax lube for an old car chain any day.

Also nobody mentioning wax lubes turn into a gritty paste with road salt lol.

@felixlane nailed it. A buddy tried that stuff on his old truck and it turned into sludge in a week.

Squirt on a car chain? That's your problem right there. Wrong tool for the job.
