Pro tip: I thought those $20 magnetic oil drain plugs were a total gimmick until I pulled one from a customer's Civic after 5,000 miles and it was covered in a scary amount of fine metal fuzz.

Has anyone else seen this much debris on a supposedly healthy engine, or is this a sign I should be telling them to get a compression check?

Scary amount of fine metal fuzz" is putting it lightly. That level of debris is way beyond normal break-in wear in my book. I'd be worried about something grinding itself down in there.

Yikes, that looks bad. I had glitter like that in my old truck's oil once. I cut open the filter and found a bunch of tiny silver flakes stuck in the pleats. Turned out a bearing was starting to go. I'd definitely pop that filter open to see what's really in there.

Honestly, that's a ton of fuzz, I'd definitely want to check the oil filter for more chunks.
