Greasy hands and circuit boards do not mix at my station

I watch coworkers munch on burgers while handling avionics units and it's a sure way to get dirt in the systems. Oil from food can ruin touch screens and attract dust that blocks airflow. Keep your snacks for the lunch table away from the bench to avoid costly clean-up jobs. It just takes one spill to fry a board and set back a whole project.

Honestly those small bits of grease add up over time. Seen plenty of keyboards get sticky keys and trackpads stop working smooth from what looks like "just a quick snack".

You said a little care goes a long way, but come on, is it really that bad? People eat over their laptops and phones all the time and most of them work fine for years. I've spilled coffee near my keyboard and just wiped it up, no big deal. Maybe some work stuff is super sensitive, but for regular things, are we just being too paranoid? What's the worst minor spill you've seen a device actually survive?

This isn't just a work thing, it's everywhere. People eat over their gadgets at home too and wonder why they break. A little care goes a long way.

You're right that it happens everywhere, and it's part of a bigger pattern of treating everything as disposable. Like zara_murphy45 said, those small bits of grease add up, but it's not just about the keyboard. It's the slow buildup of crumbs in phone ports and soda film on screens that people ignore until the thing just stops. We get used to things working until they suddenly don't.
