Took me 4 years to realize I was carrying my pack wrong
I was on the Tonto Trail in Grand Canyon last spring and my shoulders were killing me after day two. An old guy in a camp spot asked why my hip belt was sitting above my hip bones. Turns out I had the torso length adjusted wrong the whole time. Has anyone else made it years without knowing their pack fit was off?

Hard disagree, a good pack is just a good pack no matter how you wear it.

Wait, you just strap in and go regardless of where the load sits? I've seen too many kids at school hike with their packs hanging way down their back and end up with lower back pain before lunch even ends. If you carry a 30 pound bag off your hips instead of your shoulders, you're asking for trouble on a long trail. The frame and straps can be top of the line but if the fit is wrong, it throws your whole center of gravity off and you'll be miserable after a few miles.

My buddy Mark tried that "strap it and forget it" approach with a new Osprey last summer. He ended up leaning way too far forward on the first day of a 4 day trip and his lower back was wrecked by mile 6. The hip belt was sitting too low and all the weight was pulling on his shoulders instead of his hips, so he had to rest every hour after that.
