Vent: The whole 'green concrete' story is way more complicated than the headlines made it seem

I was reading about the big push for carbon-neutral construction and kept seeing articles about 'green concrete' being the future. The headlines made it sound like it was ready to go. Then I dug into a report from the Global Cement and Concrete Association and found out the tech to make it at scale, like carbon capture at the plant, is still crazy expensive and not widely deployed outside of pilot projects in places like Norway. It's gonna be years before it's the norm. Has anyone else looked into the real timeline for this stuff?

The hype always runs ahead of the real world rollout.

That GCCA report said carbon capture adds like 80 bucks a ton to the cost, which is wild. I feel you, and @eva_moore is right about the hype. I got excited too, then felt like a fool for thinking my next patio would be carbon negative.

Saw a breakdown of that GCCA report, troyknight, and the numbers are pretty rough. It's not just the cost per ton, the energy needed to run the capture tech is a huge problem too. Makes you wonder if the money is better spent on things we already know work, like solar and wind. The hype cycle for this stuff really does set people up for disappointment.
