Found a hack for lining up book cloth on the first try

I kept messing up the alignment when gluing book cloth to boards, leaving gaps or having it shift. Then an old binder at my local shop showed me to tack the cloth down with a dab of paste in the center first. Cut my waste from about one ruined cover per batch to zero so far, and it takes 30 seconds extra.

Never really believed that center tack trick would work... thought it was just old timer nonsense. Tried it out of desperation last week and it actually saved two covers I would've screwed up for sure.

Still looks like a hot mess halfway through, but the corners actually lay flat now. My girlfriend walked in and asked if I was performing some kind of sail repair ritual. Told her it's called "desperate measures from watching too many YouTube tutorials at 2am." At least the wrinkles are in predictable places now instead of just everywhere.

Two covers? That's wild lol. I was always the same way, thought it was some kind of old timer myth people just repeated to sound cool. The first time I tried it I actually laughed out loud at myself because I had this one fitted sheet corner that always flies off and I just stuck a safety pin in the middle of the elastic. It has stayed on through three wash cycles now. I honestly feel like I've been living a lie for the past ten years with my messed up bed corners.
