Customer support chat had me convinced I was talking to a bot
Last Tuesday I was trying to cancel a subscription for a service I barely used. The chat person kept responding in perfect sentences with no typos and always used my full name. Every answer looped back to offers or discounts no matter what I typed. I asked three times just to cancel and got the same scripted response each time. After 20 minutes I asked if they were a real human and they said "I am a trained agent" without any emotion. I finally called the phone line and a real person cancelled me in 2 minutes flat. Has anyone else gotten that eerie feeling where a support chat feels too robotic to be real?

Wait, is it possible some companies purposely make their chat bots kind of bad so you give up and use the phone line instead? @williamw75 I've noticed the same thing with pizza places, sometimes it feels like they're training us to just call them.

It's like everything's turning into a scripted transaction now, even picking up pizza feels automated.

@williamw75 but the automation means less small talk and faster pizza, isn't that a win?
