Stopped by the old hardware store downtown and half the customers were just talking to the self-checkout screen like it was a person.
It's got that flat friendly voice and people are actually arguing with it over coupon codes like it's gonna bend the rules for them.

Well, that's a strange one. I used to roll my eyes at people anthropomorphizing machines but this changes my mind a bit.

For me it was my Roomba getting stuck under the couch for the third time that week. I caught myself saying "come on buddy, you know better than that" out loud and had to stop and laugh at myself. But then I realized I was actually teaching it where the trouble spots were, like moving the charging dock and clearing a path. It's weird how quickly we start treating these things like they have a personality when they're just following patterns.
