Pruning my roses felt like plant abuse, not care

I cut back my rose bushes last week because everyone says it helps them grow. Now they look sad and I think all that trimming might just stress them out. Who else thinks we prune plants too much for no good reason?

Looks like you gave your roses a bad haircut. Maybe they'll grow back with an attitude.

My grandmother's old rose bush got the worst of my pruning efforts last weekend. In my experience, I have a talent for turning pretty flowers into sad sticks. If they come back with an attitude, it's probably because they're mad at me for the hack job. I'm just hoping they don't start throwing thorns at me when I walk by. But hey, your mileage may vary if you actually know what you're doing.

ivan_harris nailed it with the bad haircut joke. Your roses are probably forming a support group for abused plants. Just hope they don't unionize and demand better treatment.
