Warning: Do not let your friend name your new houseplant

I bought a really nice snake plant from a nursery in Austin last month, and my buddy Mike came over to see it. He looked at it for a full minute, then said, "This one's name is Gary. He looks like a Gary." Now, every time I water it, I catch myself saying, "Okay Gary, drink up." It's a plant, but it has a full name and personality now. Has anyone else's plant collection gotten weirdly personal because of someone else?

Gary's a solid name, and @the_nancy, the vibe is always the whole point.

My roommate's sister visited and named his fiddle leaf fig "Bartholomew Reginald Fiddleworth the Third." She wrote a tiny backstory about him being a disgraced aristocrat. Now my roommate talks to it in a terrible British accent when he mists the leaves.

That "full name and personality" part is too real. Did Mike explain what makes a plant look like a Gary, or was it just a vibe he got?
