I always thought dried beans were a waste of time
The soaking and cooking seemed like too much hassle compared to canned, but a friend showed me how to cook a whole bag in a slow cooker overnight. It costs about a dollar for a pound, which is three times cheaper than the canned stuff. Anyone have other cheap slow cooker staples?

My neighbor swears by cooking a whole chicken in her slow cooker with just some salt and water. She gets several meals from the meat and uses the bones to make broth right in the same pot.

Slow cooker with just salt and water is a crime against chicken. You need some aromatics in there, like an onion or some garlic, or it will taste like nothing.
