I miss when $20 could get me a week's worth of veggies from the farmers market
Last week I spent $12 just on bell peppers and a head of cauliflower at the regular store. 3 years ago I used to hit up the market near Oak Street in Portland and grab a full bag of everything for under $15. Ngl, I still remember getting 5 pounds of tomatoes for $4 back then. Anybody else feel like produce prices tripled without warning?

Shrinkflation hit the produce aisle too - they're packing less in those bags while jacking up the price. Cauliflower shouldn't cost more than a Big Mac meal.

I started hitting up the discount produce stores instead of the regular market, sometimes you gotta hunt for those places tucked away in older strip malls. The veggies might have a few spots sometimes but you just trim them off and they're perfectly fine for stir fries or soups. Yeah @singh.harper you're right about the shrinkflation thing, I noticed the bags of baby carrots got smaller but the price tag stayed the same. What really helped me was going to the market right before closing time when vendors want to offload stuff for cheap rather than haul it back. One guy gave me a whole flat of peaches for $5 last August because he was packing up. Also started growing my own tomatoes and herbs in pots on the balcony, nothing beats free cherry tomatoes all summer long.

My friend Jen went to the farmers market last Saturday and paid $7 for a single bag of little potatoes. She said last year the same vendor gave her two bags for $5. She was so mad she almost just left but she really wanted those potatoes for a soup. Now she only buys what's on clearance or looks a little bruised.
