A hostel owner in Prague told me my packing routine was stupid
I was staying at a hostel in Prague last summer and the owner watched me struggle to fit everything into my backpack for like ten minutes. She finally walked over and said 'why are you bringing five pairs of pants for a week? You only need two.' I thought she was rude at first but then she explained that hostels have laundry rooms and you can just wash stuff overnight for like two euros. I changed my whole packing system after that. Now I bring two pairs of pants, three shirts, and a jacket no matter how long the trip is. It saves me so much space and I don't have to check bags on budget airlines anymore. Has anyone else had a local call them out on something obvious?

Bet the owner charges for those laundry cycles too though.

And @nelson.wren you're probably right about them charging for it but honestly two euros beats paying for a checked bag any day. I had a similar wake up call in a hostel in Thailand. Old guy at the front desk watched me unpack like four pairs of shorts and just laughed. Told me I looked like I was moving in. Now I do the same thing you do. Two pants, three shirts, a hoodie. Covers everything. Even got a packing cube system going so I can grab stuff easy.

@nelson.wren probably right about the laundry fee but it's still way cheaper than a checked bag on Ryanair or whatever. Had a similar thing happen to me in Barcelona. Lady running the hostel just pointed at my giant suitcase and asked if I was immigrating. Now I travel with one pair of jeans and two quick dry shirts. That packing cube system you mentioned @nelson.wren is the real game changer though. Makes it so much easier to grab stuff without digging through everything.
