Back in Budapest after ten years and the old train station trick is gone
I used to save a ton by taking the old Keleti station bus to Vienna for like 15 euros. Went back last month and the whole system is modern, with apps and fixed prices closer to 30. It's cleaner and easier, but that raw, find-it-yourself cheap travel feel is different now. Anyone else notice a favorite budget route from their past getting polished out of existence?

I actually like the new system better (less chaos).

That "polished out of existence" feeling is everywhere now. It's like when a good dive bar gets bought and turns into a place with a fancy cocktail menu. Sure, the bathroom is clean, but the soul is gone. I miss finding those rough-around-the-edges deals that felt like a secret.
