Just got back from Lisbon and realized their city transit card works for the ferries across the Tagus too

I bought a 24-hour Viva Viagem card for 6.40 euros to use the metro, and it turns out it also covers the scenic ferry to Cacilhas, saving me a separate 2 euro ticket I was about to buy!

That's a solid tip from @betty_perry24 about checking the small print. Makes me wonder what other routes that card covers. Like, does it work on the train out to Sintra or just the city ferries and metro? I'd hate to assume it works everywhere and get stuck buying a full fare at the last minute.

Check the official transport website for the full zone map, it shows exactly where that card works. I used mine on the train to Cascais too, not just Sintra. The trick is the card covers the "Lisbon network" which is bigger than just the city center. Almost got burned thinking it was metro only, but a station agent showed me the map. Those little zones make a huge difference in how far you can go.

Totally did the same thing last spring, almost bought a separate ferry ticket before a local pointed it out. The 24-hour card is a steal for hopping between the city and that killer view from the Cacilhas waterfront. Always check the small print on those transit passes, they hide the best perks. Saved my cash for a couple extra pastel de natas instead.
