Just got back from Prague and the free walking tours were way better than I expected

The guide worked only for tips and gave us a map with all the cheap local food spots, so has anyone else found a city where these free tours are actually worth it?

Honestly it's just a walking tour, not life changing. People get way too hyped about free stuff.

Maybe @xena582 is right that a free tour isn't life changing. But the hype could be about something else. For some people, it's their first real chance to connect with others after moving to a new city. A simple walk lets them hear local stories they'd never find online, like why a certain corner store has been there for fifty years. That sense of place can mean a lot more than the price tag.
