That 4-hour bus layover in Guadalajara ate my whole budget

I figured I'd save $30 by booking the cheap overnight bus from Mexico City to Puerto Vallarta, but the 4-hour layover in Guadalajara turned into a nightmare. The terminal food court charged me $14 for a sad sandwich and warm water, then I had to pay $8 just to store my backpack because the lockers were full. After that I missed the connection and had to fork over $45 for a last-minute ticket on a different line. Lesson learned the hard way: always check the layover duration before you click that cheapest option. Anyone else get burned by a bargain route that ended up costing triple? I always check bus schedules on the actual company site first, the app hides the long waits.
