Unpopular opinion: I think the 'skip the hotel' advice is actually costing people money
I mean, I was looking at a trip to Denver and found out a hostel bed was $45 a night, but a basic motel split three ways was only $28 per person. Everyone says hostels are cheaper, but that's not always true if you're not solo. Has anyone else found a better deal on a regular hotel room?

But hostels have free breakfast and social perks...

Ever notice how a lot of common money advice is just repeated without anyone checking the math? I see it with meal kits versus groceries too, people just assume one is always cheaper. You have to run the actual numbers for your own situation.

Yeah, the "run the actual numbers" part is so true, I saw a breakdown that proved meal kits can win for singles.
