Why does every travel blog rave about using Airbnb when I just found a guesthouse in Chiang Mai for $12 a night that came with free breakfast and laundry?

I booked 3 nights at a local guesthouse near the old city last week for less than a hostel bunk and the owner even gave me scooter rental tips and a map for free, so why are people still pushing overpriced private rooms on Airbnb in Southeast Asia when these small places exist and just don't show up in English searches?

Oh yeah, @olivermason is right about Agoda deals, I saved like 30% on a Bali hotel that way!

@stella_scott96 I saw a travel blog that said booking on Agoda is way CHEAPER than walk-in rates for most hotels in Asia. Apparently they have some kind of hidden deals that aren't advertised anywhere else. Might be worth checking before you go.
