I finally stopped buying foam board at the craft store

I used to spend $12 a pop on foam board at Michael's for my kid's school projects. Then I found out the local dollar store sells the EXACT same thickness for $1.25 each. I saved about $35 on the last science fair project alone. Has anyone else found a cheaper source for basic supplies?

Oh man, I actually read an article in one of those couponing blogs about this exact thing. They said dollar store foam board is sometimes made in the same factory as the name brand stuff, just without the logo. I've personally grabbed a few packs and they held up fine for my nephew's diorama last spring. Even the Crayola markers stuck to them without bleeding through, which was my biggest worry. So yeah, you're not crazy, that's a solid money saver right there.

Crayola markers without bleeding? You serious @lee689? That's wild.

Are we really sure about that though? I've tried those cheap foam boards before, @lee689, and my Crayola markers bled through like crazy. Maybe I just got a bad batch but I'd be careful telling people it's a guaranteed win.
