My dad swore the envelope method was outdated but I finally tried it last month
He said no one uses cash for bills anymore, but I put $200 for groceries in an envelope and actually stuck to it. The visual of the cash disappearing stopped me from impulse buying snacks at checkout. Has anyone else had an old tip work better than the apps?

My buddy tried that with his beer budget and it actually worked until his wife found the envelope behind the fridge. Pretty funny how going old school can trick your brain into spending less.

I read somewhere that the envelope method actually works because it taps into loss aversion psychology.
