The day I stopped buying bottled water for good

I used to spend about $40 a month on bottled water, just grabbing a pack every week at the grocery store. Then I actually added it up one day and realized that was almost $500 a year for something I could get from my tap. I bought a $30 filter pitcher back in March and a reusable bottle for $12. Now my only cost is replacing the filter every two months for like $8. Has anyone else made a similar switch and seen their spending drop?

@mileslane I get where you're coming from, and the math definitely adds up if you're chugging through packs of bottles every week. But respectfully, I see it a little different. My tap water here has a weird mineral taste that even a good filter pitcher doesn't fully fix, so I still end up buying a couple bottles now and then for the convenience when I'm out running errands. Plus the upfront cost of a decent steel bottle and filter adds up quicker than you'd think if you lose one or break it. Not saying bottled water is a great deal, but for some of us it's not a simple swap.

That $500 a year hit me hard too when I did the math. I got a cheap filter pitcher and a steel bottle and honestly I barely notice the difference in taste.

yeah that's basically how it went for me too honestly. but I had a buddy who tried the whole switch thing and he ended up going back to bottles because his tap water tasted like a swimming pool no matter what filter he used. he even bought one of those fancy brita ones with the long life filters and it just never got rid of that chlorine aftertaste. it's weird how much it varies by location, I guess some people just don't have the luxury of making the swap that cleanly.
