I think the 'minimalist' setup trend is overrated
I switched from a plain black Leuchtturm to a cheap dotted notebook from Target 6 months ago, and honestly my spreads got way more creative without that $25 price tag making me scared to mess up. Anyone else find that not using fancy supplies actually helped them stick with it longer?

Right it's the same thing I've noticed with people who never use their "good" dishes or fancy kitchen gadgets. Like that expensive stuff just puts pressure on you to be perfect so you end up not even using it. When you grab something cheap you actually use it and that's what builds the habit.

Man I see this everywhere now. My buddy spent like $400 on a fancy espresso machine and now it just sits there collecting dust because he's scared he'll mess up the pressure or whatever. Meanwhile I've been using the same $20 French press for 5 years and make coffee every single morning. It's like that thing where people buy brand new hiking boots and never go hiking but wear their beat up sneakers on every trail. The cheap stuff frees you up to actually practice and get good.

My grandma had this same thing with doilies on every surface - stuff that's too nice to touch just becomes decoration instead of living. Isn't that basically the whole problem with our consumer culture, buying things we're too scared to actually use?
