Lost a whole afternoon to a stubborn shutter curtain on a Canon FTb yesterday
The curtain was catching just enough to hang up halfway, and it took me three hours to realize the take-up spool had a tiny burr on the edge that I kept missing because I assumed the problem was in the curtain tracks themselves. Has anyone else spent way too long chasing a mechanical glitch that turned out to be a simple burr or dent somewhere obvious?

Filing it smooth isnt always the answer @wright.leo. Sometimes that burr is actually holding the spool in place just enough to keep tension on the film. Ive seen people file down a little burr and then the spool starts slipping like crazy and they end up with loose wind and light leaks. The FTb is finicky about that kind of stuff. Better to leave the burr alone and just clean the track area first because you might be introducing a new problem by removing metal. I wasted two days on a similar thing once and learned the hard way.

Wait, you mean you actually had a spool start slipping right after filing a burr off? That's exactly the kind of feedback I've been looking for because I'm trying to decide if I should mess with mine at all. How long after you filed it did the light leaks show up, like immediate or after a few rolls?
