TIL my circular saw cuts straighter than any miter saw I've owned
I quit using my miter saw for finish work a while back. A circular saw with a straight edge guide is more reliable and doesn't wobble. Why does everyone still push miter saws as the go-to tool?

Saw a video last week where a finish carpenter said the same thing about circular saws. He called miter saws a "fast and sloppy" habit for a lot of crews. Kinda fits with what @iris_hall said about sticking with what you learned first, even if it's not the best. People see them on every job site and just assume that's the right tool. But if your circ saw is giving you cleaner lines, it makes sense to switch.

It's like how people keep using the same old apps when better ones exist lol. We just get stuck in what we learned first, even if it's not the best way.

Beyond apps, this happens with all kinds of tools. Like, I know folks who still use old software for editing because they learned it years ago, even though newer options are faster and easier. The time needed to learn something new feels like a big hurdle, so they just keep with what works, even if it's not the best. It's a mix of comfort and not wanting to waste time on change.
