My friend said to watch for the 'cry angle' in apology videos

She told me to look at where the camera is placed, not just the tears. She said if it's a low shot looking up at them, it's staged for sympathy. I checked a video from that actor who had the restaurant scandal, and sure enough, the camera was below his chin the whole time. What other tricks do you guys look for to spot a fake apology?

Emma_baker61 might be onto something with the weatherman bit. The lighting is another dead giveaway, like they're trying to look holy. It's all just bad acting with a fancy camera setup.

My local weatherman uses that same low angle when apologizing for a wrong forecast.

Tell him to check the radar next time, @alicemartinez.

Wow, I never paid attention to the camera angle before. I used to just listen to the words they said. But after reading this, I went back and watched that old tech CEO apology, and the shot is totally from below. It completely changes how you see the whole thing. Makes it feel like a performance, not a real talk.
