The day I realized landlord-tenant court is basically a daytime soap opera
I went to the Daley Center last month for a simple eviction hearing. My landlord claimed I owed $2,400 in back rent, but I had bank statements showing every payment cleared. The judge looked at the stack of papers, rolled her eyes, and asked the landlord if he'd bothered to check his own records. Turns out he was mixing up my account with another tenant on the third floor. The whole hearing lasted maybe 12 minutes and ended with him getting a lecture about basic bookkeeping. Has anyone else had their landlord try something that was just plain sloppy in court?

Last time I was in that court a guy tried to prove his tenant owed him money with a napkin that had some scribbles on it.

@mark_green come on, at least the napkin had something on it. I've seen way worse evidence hold up in there.

Printed out the texts. Judge looked at them for two seconds. Worked fine.
