Hit 500 gallons of gasoline saved this morning on my trip tracker

I've been logging every drive since I swapped to a hybrid last January, and the number snuck up on me. That's about 8,000 pounds of CO2 I didn't put into the air just from changing one car. Has anyone else tracked a specific savings number like this and had it be bigger than you expected?

8,000 pounds of CO2" - that figure's off. It's closer to 11,000 pounds for 500 gallons.

The EPA's own numbers show it at around 22 pounds per gallon for diesel, which puts 500 gallons at 11,000 even. I remember reading a study from the DOE a few years back that broke it down by fuel type, and gasoline is a bit lower at like 19-20 pounds per gallon. They accounted for the full lifecycle though, not just burning it in the engine. So the extra weight comes from stuff like refining and transport before you even put it in your tank. It's a lot more complicated than people realize once you start digging into the supply chain.

Makes you wonder what other hidden costs we never think about, right?
