Spent $800 on a home energy audit and the report was a real eye-opener

I live in a 90s house in Columbus and our winter heating bills were killing us, so I bit the bullet and paid for a pro energy audit. The guy spent three hours with a blower door and an infrared camera, and the report showed air leaks everywhere, especially around our attic hatch and basement rim joists. He said our old insulation was basically useless in some spots. The cost felt steep upfront, but seeing the thermal images of cold air pouring in made it super clear where our money was literally flying out the window. We're now planning to seal those gaps and add more insulation in the attic ourselves. Has anyone else done an audit and been surprised by what they found? I'm curious if the fixes actually cut your bills as much as they say.

That blower door test is no joke, it'll humble any house. My place whistled like a teakettle around every outlet and light switch. Sealing those up was a cheap weekend project that actually made a noticeable difference in drafts.

@anderson.taylor my house passed that test easy, no whistles here.

Yeah, my neighbor said his audit found a huge leak behind his fridge.
